William Glenn Sloan

William Glenn Sloan, age 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 14, 2026, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. Born on April 29, 1940, Mr. Sloan lived a life of honor, integrity and servanthood. He was a man of his word, a follower of Christ and the most loyal patriarch of his family. He loved his family with every ounce of his being and was so incredibly proud of them. He talked about them to anyone who would listen. Bill was an avid Georgia Bulldog and Atlanta Braves fan, as long as they were winning! He would also cheer on opposing schools that his grandchildren attended because he wanted everyone happy on Saturday during football season.

Mr. Sloan was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Alice McDaris Sloan on June 25, 2026, his parents, James Glenn Sloan and Rosaline Harris Sloan, brothers Thomas Sloan, Lamar Sloan and beloved sister Annette Sloan Boyd. He was also preceded in death by his firstborn infant grandson, David Souther.

He is survived by his devoted and loving daughters who were his pride and joy, Rhonda Sloan Souther (Mark) of Dalton, and Donna Sloan Pound (Steve) of Savannah, Georgia. His grandchildren, The Honorable George Jason Souther (Molly), William Jess Souther (Amanda), Preston Thomas Pound (Elizabeth), Riley Pound Akridge (Konnor) and Amelia Sloan Pound. Great-grandchildren Finley George Souther, Nora Lorraine Souther, Annie Jones Souther and yet to be born to Jess and Amanda, baby Souther.

He is also survived by his devoted sister and brother, Marlyne Lindsey (JE) and Wayne Sloan (Dot). He is also survived by his best friends Bobby and Nancy Howell.

Mr. Sloan was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for most of his adult life, forming lifelong friendships. He was most recently a member of Dalton First United Methodist Church where he enjoyed his Sunday school class and singing in the Chancel Choir. He was a community leader as a member of Kiwanis, Family Frameworks, a hospital volunteer, Sounds of Joy, an election poll manager, Ross Woods, Meals on Wheels and Miracle League.

Mr. Sloan retired from Shaw Industries after 35 years as Billing Manager. He made many lifelong friends while working at Shaw. Mr. Sloan was lovingly cared for during his final weeks by angels on earth, Angie Whitener and Penny Jackson. The family is so grateful for their compassion and devotion.

One of his greatest joys in life was being the best Poppa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always present in their lives, a source of unconditional love and support. It is impossible to convey the amount of love and kindness that this amazing man had for others. As his family, we acknowledge and value his legacy of kindness, compassion, character and faith and vow to try to carry that forward.

Service to celebrate the life of Mr. William Sloan will be on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Visitation will be from 1:30-3:00 in the Atrium of Dalton First United Methodist Church with the service immediately following in the sanctuary with The Rev. Don Landen officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Dalton First United Methodist Church General Fund.
