It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Augustus Crawford of Dalton, Georgia. Stan passed away on December 17, 2025, in Dalton Georgia. He was 80 years old.
Stan was born in LaGrange, Georgia and attended LaGrange High School where he participated in track and football. He was named to the Georgia High School All-Star football team in 1962. After high school, he attended the University of Georgia on a Gran-in-Aid scholarship where he played football for four years, three of which were under Coach Vince Dooley. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and graduated in 1967, a Distinguished Military Graduate, Army ROTC.
Stan served in the US Army from 1968-1970, being deployed in Vietnam for 18 months and earning two bronze stars.
He was the son of the late Olin Carl Crawford and Gladys Lucile Crawford. He was married to Jenny Allen Crawford of LaGrange for 54 years. Other survivors include one son, Kevin Crawford (Leslie) and Carley Hopkins (Billy). Papa Stan was blessed with four grandchildren, Mac Crawford, Ann Ellison Crawford, Steven Crawford and Arrie Hope Hopkins. He is survived by his sister Dean Chewning of LaGrange, Georgia.
Stan had an extensive banking career beginning in 1972 in LaGrange, Georgia with C & S National Bank. He later moved to Dalton in 1989 as President of C & S National Bank, eventually acquired by Nations Bank and later Bank of America. In 1992, he moved to Hardwick Bank & Trust which was acquired by BB&T. He retired in 2010.
Stan was involved in numerous community and civic organizations in LaGrange and Dalton. He served as President of the LaGrange Noon Lions Club, President and Campaign Chair of the LaGrange area United Way, Chairman of the City of LaGrange Board of Zoning Appeals, President of the LaGrange Area University of Georgia Alumni Society, President of the LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society, Director of the Troup County Local Development Corporation, Member of Board of Trustees for LaGrange Academy, Vestryman at St. Marks Episcopal Church, President of Rotary Club of Dalton, Chairman of Leadership Dalton Whitfield, Board Member of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Trustee for Whitfield Healthcare Foundation, Chairman of Dalton Whitfield Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the United Way of Northeast Georgia and Campaign Chair, President of the Epilepsy Foundation of North Georgia, Board Member, Treasurer of Dalton Golf and Country Club, and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, Dalton.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 10th at 2:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 South Selvidge Street, Dalton, Georgia with Pastor Nicole Jiskoot officiating. The family will have a time of visitation at the church before the service at 1:00 pm.
