For many lifelong residents of Whitfield County and his beloved family, September 10th 2025 will be remembered as the day we all lost a loyal friend, a loving father and Grandfather, and devoted husband. Ronald (Ron) L. Griffin on this day passed away with the love of his life, Brenda, by his side.
From his early years growing up as the only child of Herman and Eloise Griffin, Ron and Brenda began dating when Juniors at the newly formed Westside High School and, to no one’s surprise, were crowned Mr. & Miss Westside High as Seniors. They married in 1963 while Ron was a student at the University of Chattanooga. When sharing stories of their lives together, Ron was quick to tell everyone that his children - Rhonda, Mark, and Amanda – were his greatest treasures. It was, however, his grandchildren that brought out the light in Ron’s eyes.
Ron began his 50-year career at Dalton Federal Savings & Loan in 1965. His lifelong dedication of helping the residents of North Georgia and beyond fulfill their dreams of home ownership. His career highlight was being a founding partner of Fairfield Mortgage, opening multiple branches in surrounding states. He took great joy in working with first-time home buyers. Additionally, his desire to make a difference in the community led to countless hours volunteering with numberous local organazations including City of Refuge, Creative Arts Guild, Rotary Club, and others.
As a longtime active member of Dalton First United Methodist Church, he held many leadership roles including treasurer. Outside of work and volunteering, Ron enjoyed many hobbies such as woodworking, gardening, traveling, and grilling to name a few.
Ron is survived by his wife of 62 years Brenda, daughters Rhonda (Tom) Stuart, Amanda (Micah) Riggle; son Mark (Lucy) Griffin; grandchildren Caroline (Kevin) Taylor, Jonathan Stuart, Katherine Griffin and Fletcher Griffin, Nathan Riggle and Lena Riggle.
A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate Ron's life will be conducted on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. in the Sanctuary of Dalton First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Steven Usry officiating. Ron's family will receive friends for visitation in the church Atrium from 12:30 P.M. until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dalton First United Methodist Church’s general fund (link below).
