Leon Jefferson “Jeff” Tallent, Jr. age 71, of Cohutta, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, at his home.
Born on August 26, 1954, in Dalton, GA. Jeff was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was marked by service, hard work, and love for his family and community.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Jefferson Tallent, Sr. and Era Dee Burnette Tallent.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Donna Tallent; his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Nicki Tallent; his cherished grandchildren, Brady, Braelyn, Briley Dee, and Bransen Tallent. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Chambers (Randy); brothers, Greg Tallent (Pam) and Chris Tallent (Darlene); special friends, Donnie Dunn “Redwood”, Barry Gober, Tony Shuler, and all his brothers on Battalion III; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Jeff dedicated 31 years of service to the Dalton Fire Department, retiring with honor as a Battalion Chief. Also, Jeff was the 52nd graduate of the Georgia Smoke Divers. Throughout his career, he was respected for his leadership, commitment, and willingness to serve others.
Outside of work, Jeff found great joy in the outdoors. He especially loved hunting and gardening, and he took pride in sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. Over the years, many were blessed by the food, care, and generosity that came from his garden. His kindness, quiet strength, and servant’s heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Jeff’s life will be held at a later date, at Love Funeral Home.
