Jean Mitchell Henson

Jean Mitchell Henson passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026, at home.

Born in Blackshear, Georgia on February 14, 1935, Jean was the daughter of Walter Gordon Mitchell and Mabel Bennett Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Walter Gordon Mitchell, Jr. and beloved son, Mark Bennett Henson.

A member of First Baptist Church for 58 years, she treasured her many years in the Hughes/ Cosby Sunday School Class. She was a homemaker and a graduate of Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta. Until advanced age and illness prevailed, she was very active in her church and community.

The ultimate joys in her life were cherishing her family and friends and serving as a Christian. God blessed her with wonderful family and friends, and she was eternally grateful for their love and care.

Survivors are her loving husband of 64 years, Dr. Paul Edward Henson, Jr.; daughter, Elizabeth H. Toland (Jim); son, Dr. P. Edward Henson, III of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Kaitlyn T. Jackson (Jacob) of Marietta, Henson P. Toland of Woodstock, Erin E. Toland of Woodstock, Lucy H. Osetinsky (Paul) of Lookout Mountain, M. Bennett Henson, II of New York City, and Dr. Betsy C. Henson of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Lillian E. Jackson, Georgia L. Osetinsky, Edward V. Osetinsky, and Henry S. Osetinsky.

The family is deeply grateful to Sabrina Dant for the compassionate care and kindness she has provided during the past year.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Friday, July 31, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Dalton. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 AM until 1 PM. Jean will be laid to rest in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
