Jack Duggan, age 89, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026.
He was married to his beloved wife, Joy Emmett Duggan, for 55 years until her passing in 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Edna Duggan; his brother, Don Duggan; his daughters, Lisha Duggan Wright and Madre Duggan Singley; and his sons, Mike Duggan and Keith Duggan.
Jack is survived by his sisters, Mona Duggan Trotter and Betty Duggan, both of Chattanooga; his daughters, Delinda Duggan of Knoxville and Debra Duggan Montes; and his daughter-in-law, Lucy Duggan of Chattanooga. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Phillip Duggan of Chattanooga; Mary Arden Roberts and her husband, Alex; and Henderson Wright and his wife, Megan; as well as his great-grandchildren, Scarlett Roberts, Caroline Roberts, Alex Roberts Jr., Bennett Wright, and Clara Wright.
In 1961, Jack co-founded Ted F. Duggan & Sons, a Chattanooga-based structural steel drafting and detailing firm. The company earned a strong reputation for producing high-quality drawings across commercial and industrial construction projects. During his tenure as President, Jack oversaw the completion of numerous major projects, including prominent structures such as the Omni/CNN Center and the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Americas Tower in New York City, One International Place in Boston, Fountain Place Tower in Dallas, as well as several power plants across North America, Asia, and Europe. He served as President until his retirement in 1998.
A native of Chattanooga, Jack was a devoted deacon at Ridgeview Baptist Church. After relocating to Dalton, Georgia, in 1976, he continued his faithful service at First Baptist Church and dedicated ten years to the local zoning board. Outside of his civic and church involvement, Jack was an avid golfer and a devoted supporter of Alabama Crimson Tide football.
Above all, Jack cherished time with his family and friends. He attributed his rich and fulfilling life to his steadfast faith in God, upon whom he relied until his final days. His legacy of faith, dedication, and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate Jack’s life will be conducted on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Dalton with the Reverend Dr. Jonathan Barlow and the Reverend Phillip Cannon officiating. Jack’s family will receive friends for visitation at the church prior to service beginning at 11:00 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Wednesday Meals for Friends ministry.
Condolences and messages of sympathy may be expressed for Jack's family through Love Funeral Home's online guestbook.
