Mr. Edward Bennett Cuthbert, known throughout his life as 'Eddie' and 'Ed,' age 88, of Rocky Face, Georgia, passed away on the evening of Friday, March 27, 2026.
Eddie was born on Tuesday, October 12, 1937, in Hamilton County, Tennessee, to the late Mr. Roswell Oliver Cuthbert and the late Mrs. Dorothy Mae Thompson Cuthbert.
Eddie served his country in the United States Army. It was during his time of service that he was awarded the U.S. Army Good Conduct Medal, an award which is granted to enlisted personnel for their exemplary behavior, efficiency, and fidelity during their years of active duty. Eddie continued his civil service throughout his working career, serving with the City of Dalton Fire Department for a number of years. He retired from the Department as a Lieutenant, which, at the time, was the highest rank within the Department.
Outside of work, Eddie enjoyed spending his leisure time fishing, boating, camping, and gardening.
In addition to his parents, Roswell and Dorothy Cuthbert, Eddie is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mrs. Charline Bennett Cuthbert, whom he married on Saturday, August 15, 1959.
Eddie is survived by his daughter, Donna (Billy) Combs; his grandchildren, Kevin (Liz) Sullivan, Matthew Sullivan, Christopher Sullivan, Britney Sullivan, Michael Cuthbert, and Heather Cuthbert. Eddie is further survived by his sister, Loretta Castleberry, his sister-in-law, Mary Jane Bennett, as well as his great-grandchildren, his nieces, and his nephews. Additionally, Eddie is survived by his beloved pet, Winky.
Eddie's family will receive friends to honor and celebrate his life on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Love Funeral Home. His family will lay him to rest next to his wife in West Hill Cemetery in a private graveside service at a later date.
