Dorothy B. Sitton

May 3, 1924 — Oct 9, 2026

Dalton

Mrs. Dorothy Boliek Sitton entered the gates of Heaven October 9, 2026 at the age of 102. She passed in the comfort of her home and was surrounded by a great deal of love from her family. Mrs. Sitton was preceded in death by her loving husband of 73 years, Sam Sitton Jr., and her daughter, Nancy Evelyn Sitton. She was also preceded by her parents, John and Emily Boliek, eight siblings: Fred Boliek, Bill Boliek, Ernest Boliek, Albert Boliek, Edith Worrell, Irene Boliek, Margaret Hoza, and Louise Stirewalt. She is survived by her three children and their spouses; Allan (Tish) Sitton, Larry (Diane) Sitton, Janet (Paul) Johnson, grandchildren; Regan Leigh Means, Mark Sitton, April (Nathan) Karn, Nancy (Brandon) Goble, and Katherine (Cody) Patterson, and her great-grandchildren; Caitlyn and Samantha Karn, and Saylor Blue and Shiloh Patterson.

Mrs. Sitton was born on May 3,1924 in Hickory, North Carolina. She graduated from Hickory High School and went on to earn a degree in Dietetics from Florida State University. She completed her degree and internship at Philadelphia General Hospital and moved on to Duke Hospital following graduation. During this time, she met the man who would become her husband for 73 years. A pilot during World War II, the two met while he was on leave, and married after the end of the war. They lived in Chattooga County for many years and moved to Dalton in 1964 where they resided until the present time.

During their time in Dalton, they were active members of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Sitton taught Sunday School in that church for many years and truly lived her faith. After her youngest child began school, she went through the West Georgia program to earn her teaching certificate as a post-bac student, and taught in Dalton Public schools for thirteen years, pioneering the Pre-first program and ending her teaching career at Brookwood Elementary while teaching third grade. Her special love for children was well known. She was not an eager traveler, and she was at her happiest in her own home with family all around.

There are many different kinds of heroes. Some are the ones you see; the ones you know. Others are behind the lines, supporting in any way possible, never wavering, with steady faith and strength. Mrs. Sitton was that kind of hero; quiet and unassuming, yet one of the strongest, most faithful, loving and supportive individuals you could meet. We were very fortunate to have her in our lives.

Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 on Tuesday, October 13 in the Dalton First Baptist Church Atrium with a service to follow in the chapel of the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Georgia Baptist Children's Homes, or to the FBC Wednesday Meal Program.
