David Joseph Young

David Joseph Young passed away July 15, 2026. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

David was born September 5, 1954, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. His father attended Emory Theology School and became a Methodist Preacher, and his mother was a teacher.

Growing up, his family moved a lot, eventually moving from Mississippi to Georgia. David came to Dalton in 1971. He graduated from North Whitfield High School in 1972. He went to Dalton Junior College and received his associate degree. He continued his education at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. David spent his career in the carpet and flooring industry.

He was preceded in death by his father Joseph E. Young, mother Zula Ann Young, father-in-law Ronald E. King, mother-in-law Francis L. King, and brother-in-law Gary King. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathy King Young, daughter and son-in-law Stacey and Steve Carpenter, son Joey Young, son and daughter-in-law Derek and Kathleen Young, grandson Tyler Carpenter (Jessica), grandson Kyle Carpenter (Amelia), grandson Kason Young, granddaughter Ella Young, great granddaughter Charlie Carpenter, his sister Priscilla King (Kendall), sister-in-law Linda Sanford (Wayne), nieces and nephews, and special friends Doug and Wendy Peters, Jodi Dennard, and Tom Breitweiser.

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Peoples Cancer Institute, especially Kim Bailey and Zach Henson who went above and beyond for David and Kathy. The nurses and doctors at Hamilton Medical Center for the care and love they showed David. Also, HeartLite Hospice for the care and comfort they provided David in his last days.

Services will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, July 18th at Love Funeral Home with Pastor Brandon Crews officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 until 3:00 PM. David will be laid to rest at West Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Peeples Cancer Institute or the American Cancer Society.
