Comer Turley, Jr. passed away on Monday, December 15th. He was preceded in in death by his parents Comer Turley and Martha Mathis Turley of Lindale, GA and his sisters Honey Glover and Patti Foxworth. He graduated from the Darlington School in 1961 and attended Clemson University. He served in the Air Force and then in 1965 he came to Dalton to run Griffins Men’s Shop. He married Henrietta Jones in 1966. He began a career in Real Estate with his Father-in-law Alfred Jones which continued until 1990 when he joined Shaw Industries. He retired in 2008.
He was a founding member of Grace Presbyterian Church (founded in 1983) where he served as a Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the Family Support Council for years championing children and families. His greatest love was Jesus Christ, whom he talked about to everyone he met. Most recently he volunteered at the Peeples Cancer Center where he shared his journey with cancer and how God brought him joy through his diagnosis. He truly desired to share hope with anyone he encountered.
He is survived by his wife Henrietta Jones Turley of Dalton, his sons Comer III (Kim) of Fort Myers FL and Alfred (Heidi) of Dalton, his sister Joann Bugg (Frank) of Jasper GA, as well as eight grandchildren - Mathis (Nicole), Morgan Chapman (Caleb), Judson, Conley, Kathryn, Emma, Jonathan and Joel, as well as great grandchildren Marilla and Kealy, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 19th at 11:00 AM at Grace Presbyterian Church at 2107 Threadmill Rd., Dalton GA.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 18th from 5-7 PM at Love Funeral Home, 1402 N. Thornton Ave, Dalton GA.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Family Support Council of Dalton at www.familysupportcouncil.org or Grace Medical Outreach at www.gracemedicaloutreach.org two organizations dear to Comer.
