In Memory of Arturo Hernandez

December 28, 1965 – October 7, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Arturo Hernandez, who departed this world on October 7, 2026, at the age of 60, following his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on December 28, 1965, in Armería, Colima, Mexico, Arturo lived a life marked by his humility, his faith, his dedication, and his love for his family and community. He touched the lives of many people through his service to others, his commitment to the Catholic faith, and the relationships he cultivated throughout his life.

To his childhood friends and those who grew up alongside him in his hometown, Arturo was affectionately known as “Hijin.” This very special nickname carried with it years of shared memories, friendships, and connections to the place where his story began. To those who knew him by that name, he will always be remembered as that familiar face and beloved friend with whom they shared their youth, forever remaining a part of the memories of their hometown.

Arturo was a devout Catholic whose faith held a central place in his life. He spent much of his time at St. Joseph’s

Catholic Church, where he taught Bible classes, taught catechism for First Communion, and participated in numerous parish groups. His dedication to his parish reflected his desire to share his faith and contribute to the spiritual lives of others. He was a well-known and deeply appreciated member of the parish community, dedicating his time to serving his fellow believers and helping others strengthen their relationship with God.

His involvement at St. Joseph’s went far beyond attending Mass. Through his teaching, participation in parish groups, and commitment to church life, Arturo became a familiar presence to many people. His faith was a fundamental part of who he was, and the time he devoted to his church and community will remain a meaningful part of his legacy.

Throughout his working life, Arturo worked at Shaw Industries, Plant 81, in the pack-out department, where products were packaged and prepared. His years of work represented another important chapter in his life and reflected his dedication to his responsibilities and to the life he built for his family.

During his youth, Arturo was passionate about soccer, a sport he enjoyed both for the excitement of the game and the camaraderie it brought. Soccer was one of his passions and a memorable part of his younger years, alongside the friendships and experiences that helped shape the man he became.

Throughout their lives, Arturo and his family also had the blessing of building a chosen family, made up of all the people and families whose paths crossed theirs and who came to hold a very special place in their hearts. With many of them, they built lifelong friendships, stood by one another through good times and bad, and shared countless laughs, experiences, and beautiful memories they will cherish forever. Arturo deeply appreciated these families and wholeheartedly valued the special bonds they built together. Although they did not all share the same blood, their affection, loyalty, and memories united them as a true family.

Above all, Arturo loved spending time with his family. The moments they shared will forever be treasured by those who were closest to him. He was deeply loved by his wife, his children, his extended family, his church, and his community. His humility and the bonds he maintained throughout his life made him a beloved person whose story is woven into the lives of many.

Among the many things that brought Arturo comfort was his beloved dog, Canela. During some of the most difficult moments of his life, she offered him a quiet and faithful companionship that words could never fully express. Without needing to say a single word, Canela offered him a kind of love that asks for nothing in return. She remained by his side as a constant and cherished presence, bringing him warmth and solace when he needed it most.

Arturo's passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Although his family, friends, and community mourn his loss, his memory will live on through the relationships he cultivated, the faith he shared, and the countless memories he leaves behind. His life reminds us of the lasting impact a humble and devoted person can have on those around them.

Arturo was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Maria Fuentes Hernandez and Lucas Rosales, as well as his brothers, Juan Cedano and Vicente Preciado.

Arturo is survived by his beloved wife, María Alicia Hernandez; his children, Michelle Hernandez Aboud (Abdalhady) and Luis Hernandez; his sisters, Enedina Martínez and Maria Dora Hernandez; and his brothers, Ramiro Cedano and Victor Virgen.

Arturo will be deeply missed by his family, his childhood friends, his fellow members of the parish community, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Whether remembered as Arturo by his family and community or affectionately called “Hijin” by those who grew up alongside him, he will always hold a very special place in the hearts of those who loved him.

May he rest in peace, and may his memory be cherished forever.
