Alice June 'Sugar' Shreve slipped quietly away into the welcoming arms of our Lord on December 2, 2025, at the graceful age of 95.
She was born June 11,1930, to Benjamin Caleb Shreve, and Edna Luella Shreve from Union City, Pennsylvania.
She was the 7th of 9 children and always told many wonderful stories about her family, and growing up on a dairy farm.
Alice graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1949 at Canadohta Lake Pennsylvania, and was at the top of her class. Shortly after graduation, she married Donald Herbert Garnett, and they had 4 children.
In 1960 she married Richard Doyle Barber, who had 4 children, and together they had an additional 4 children. All 12 children were raised and loved as one family.
As a result of her generous and caring spirit, she was loved and admired by family, and many, many friends, from far and wide.
She was an avid crocheter and knitter and her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren all have treasures to be cherished, made by her happy hands. She often would say, “Busy Hands are Happy Hands”
In 2004 she met her beloved Russell Arcand, and they spent many happy years in Shady Haven Park in Englewood, Florida, until his death on August 23, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Caleb Shreve, Edna Luella Shreve, and children, Dr. James L Barber, David P. Barber and William Bill Barber, Son in law, Gary Eshbaugh, Son in law, Gerald Knox, Daughter in Law, Carol Barber, Daughter in Law, Jean Garnett, and by her siblings, Flossie Mihalo, Helen Parsons , Ernest Shreve, Winnie Carr, Harriet Hamel, as well as her grandchildren, Michelle Buss, grandsons, David Knox and Mark Knox, as well as her great-grandchildren, Kaiah Missoff, John Arthur Boone III, Colin Curtis, Emma Krites.
Her beautiful life will be cherished in the lives of her children, Bonnie and Emerson Stull (Wooster, Ohio), Eric E and Dee Ann Garnett (Mountain View, Arkansas), Marialice Eshbaugh (Bowden, Georgia), Dino K Garnett and Terri Barnett (Live Oak, Florida), Joel H. Garnett (Clearmont Wyoming), Elizabeth E and Greg Daugherty (Live Oak, Florida), Kevin P and Kellie A Barber (Rocky Face, Georgia), Kayleen P and Raymond Headley (Live Oak, Florida), Karen Y and Jesse Arnold (Maud, Texas), 28 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, and 38 great-great grandchildren, and her beloved Sister, Sadie Jones (Union City, Pennsylvania).
