Kierie Block Parker born December 31, 1931 finished her journey on this earth Friday, March 10, 2017 and is now in the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Kierie was preceded in death by her father and mother Leenert Block and Clara Taber Jones of Nantucket, MA. She is survived by one sister, Sara Block Johnsen of Nantucket, MA; a nieces, Sally K. & Gary McCoy of San Jose, CA; 2 nephews, Albert and Joanne Johnsen of Nantucket, MA, Dave and Wanda Williams of Dalton, GA; Grand niece Kelly and Michael Gibson of Madison, WI; 3 grand nephews, Carl Johnsen of Nantucket, MA, John Paul and Teresia Williams of Chatsworth, GA and Joel Todd and Meredith Williams of Dalton, GA; 2 Great Grand Nieces, Lorelei Gibson, and Kyola Williams; 3 Great Grand Nephews, Killian Gibson, Thomas and John Williams; 3 special friends, Marlene Schneider of Dalton, GA, Pat Caldwell of Dalton, GA, and Shelia Bennett of Dalton, GA. Kierie graduated from Nantucket High School in 1949 and then in 1952 from Massachusetts Memorial Hospitals School of Nursing. After working in the Boston area for a number of years, Kierie traveled to the Isthmus of Panama where she worked for the Panama Canal Co. until she retired in 1981. During her time in Panama, Kierie met and married Marvin Parker who also was employed by the Panama Canal Co. Upon retirement Kierie and Marvin returned to Dalton, GA, Marvin’s home, where they spent their remaining years. Kierie worked for the Whitfield County Health Department from 1993 until 2000 and volunteered there until 2016. Kierie was a faithful member of Kinsey Drive Baptist Church where she served on numerous committees including, but not limited to, the Lords Table Committee and the Hospitality Committee. She also aided in and assisted the church in many other capacities. Funeral services will be held at Love Funeral Home in Dalton, GA Sunday, March 19, at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home. Services will be led by Pastor Dr. Ronald Wayne McKinney. Visitation will be Saturday, March 18 at Love Funeral Home from 5:00 – 8:00. After the funeral service Kierie’s body will be sent to Nantucket, MA. where will she be interred in Prospect Hill Cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions made to Kinsey Drive Baptist Church,2626 Kinsey Dr SW, Dalton, GA 30720.
