After a long illness, Trevylian “Trev” Andrew Nelson II, died peacefully while surrounded by his family in Dalton, GA on January 16, 2013. He was born on January 29, 1940, in Savannah, GA where he spent his formative years. Some of his fondest childhood memories were at the Bethesda Home For Boys in Savannah where he met many life-long friends. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church on the Isle of Hope near Savannah.
A graduate of Savannah High School, Class of 1958, Trev worked for Diamond Construction Company for several years before joining Motor Contract of Savannah in 1963. Later, he was transferred to Dalton, Georgia which became his new home and where he would start a family. Later, Trev joined Hardwick Bank in Dalton as Vice President and eventually retired from Regions Bank. He was a medic in the Air National Guard and served his country well.
He loved life and there was never a time he wasn’t making a friend smile. His wife, children and grandchildren who knew him as “Papa T” were the loves his life. He was known to his Savannah friends as “Ajax” and “Bro” to his brother. An avid game hunter, Trev and his buddies founded a hunting club in Sparta, GA, which some referred to as “Gloryland”, where he enjoyed many memorable times with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Arabelle Walsh Nelson & Jones Edward Nelson and his sister, Sydney Johanna Nelson. Trev is survived by his wife, Mary Watkins Nelson of Dalton; son, Trevylian Andrew Nelson III (daughter-in-law Heather) of Chattanooga, TN; daughter, Ashley Nelson Gallagher (son-in-law Randy) and three grandchildren, Reece, Declan and Josephine of Dunwoody, GA. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Nelson Miller of Signal Mountain, TN and brother, Donald Edward Nelson (sister-in-law Helen) of Lawrenceville, GA. Other surviving family members consist of many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones including his canine companions, Li’l Buddy, Annie and Tipper.
The viewing will be held at Love Funeral Home in Dalton on Friday, January 18, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held at Dug Gap Baptist Church on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Bob Bagley and Rev. Byron Edens officiating. Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Dalton Humane Society of Northwest Georgia or a charity of choice.
